Movie description:
In the early 1980s, handsome Tokyo kid Ryônosuke Kusunoki is a newcomer in a Hokkaido village to which his government official father has been sent to acquire the necessary land to push through a new airport. Ryônosuke has his own problems trying to fit in at his new school and finds himself at loggerheads with local farm boy Kohei Tsuchida. Rough diamond Kohei first sees the city slicker as a rival, but soon the pair becomes best buddies, amusing themselves with activities like exploding cow patties all over the villagers. As Ryônosuke bonds with the locals, he increasingly turns against his father.
Grade schooler Ryônosuke has just moved to a small town with his father, a government official overseeing the area’s unpopular airport construction project. Ryônosuke finds a new friend in milk delivery boy Kohei who introduces him to all the local eccentrics including Hiharu, a young girl who believes she can communicate with UFOs. Kohei’s dad is also pretty strange himself, a biologist who went off on an endangered species conservation crusade years ago, but suddenly returns to town. His first homecoming project: leading a protest against the airport construction and Ryônosuke’s dad.
